Bereavement, defined as the objective situation of the loss of a loved one, is a universal experience. Yet, bereavement care does not seem to be everybody’s or anybody’s core business. Singapore is facing challenges associated with a rapidly aging population. An increase in the number of deaths will mean there will be more newly bereaved individuals and individuals who have experienced multiple losses of their loved ones.
It is vital to systematically build up assets for bereavement care now. We, therefore, look forward to the various stakeholders coming together to further this work. In this seminar, the Grief and Bereavement Sub-Committee under the auspices of Singapore Hospice Council will be sharing details of exploratory research findings and their recommendations to improve bereavement care in Singapore.
